The relationship of human papillomavirus positivity with tumor characteristics in an Irish penile cancer population
CONCLUSIONS: Our data is representative of the Irish landscape in penile cancer over the last five years. Using p16INK4a staining, we demonstrate a high rate of HPV prevalence in penile cancer cases in our patient cohort, which is associated with prognostically worse tumor subtypes. This would suggest that HPV vaccination of adolescent boys is a useful public health intervention in preventing penile cancer in the Irish male population.PMID:36656691 | PMC:PMC9851216 | DOI:10.5489/cuaj.7821

School immunization coverage in adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: There was a substantial decrease in school-based immunization coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic, and coverage has not returned to pre-pandemic levels, suggesting further catch-up is needed.PMID:36642632 | PMC:PMC9826994 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.01.011

Factors influencing human papillomavirus school-based immunization in Alberta: A mixed-methods study protocol
This study has one overarching research question: what are parent/guardian and program stakeholder perceived barriers, enablers and opportunities to immunization for youth as part of the school-based HPV immunization program in Alberta? This study uses a mixed-methods sequential explanatory design. A survey will be emailed to a sample of Albertans with children aged 11-17 years. Questions will be based on a Conceptual Framework of Access to Health Care. Subsequent qualitative work will explore the survey's findings. Parents/guardians identifying as vaccine hesitant in the survey will be invited to participate in virtual, s...

Increases in human papillomavirus vaccine coverage over 12  months among a community-recruited cohort of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men in Canada
CONCLUSIONS: We observed substantial gains in HPV vaccine coverage among young GBM within 5 + years of targeted program implementation, but gaps remain, particularly among older men who are ineligible for publicly-funded programs. Findings suggest the need for expanded public funding or insurance coverage for HPV vaccines.PMID:35577633 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.05.019

Incidence of anogenital warts after the introduction of the quadrivalent HPV vaccine program in Manitoba, Canada
CONCLUSIONS: The publicly funded school-based qHPV vaccine program reduced AGW incidence in Manitoba by three-quarters in young females. AGW-related prescriptions are a poor proxy for medically attended AGW after the introduction of the publicly funded qHPV vaccination program. Different sexual habits in adolescents are, at most, responsible for a small portion of the reduction in AGW incidence.PMID:35472093 | DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0267646

Covax, the Developing World ’ s Hope against COVID, Has Made It Only Halfway
Delivery of syringes for the vaccination campaign in El Salvador. Latin American countries have made steady progress in immunizing their populations, partly through direct negotiations between their governments and suppliers and partly through international cooperation. CREDIT: PAHO By Humberto MárquezCARACAS, Jan 20 2022 (IPS) The Covax initiative, the hope of the countries of the developing South to immunize their populations against COVID-19, only met half of its goals in 2021. And as 2022 begins, and the omicron variant of the virus is spreading fast, the scheme still depends on the decisions of pharmaceutical compani...

High-risk HPV prevalence among women undergoing cervical cancer screening: Findings a decade after HPV vaccine implementation in British Columbia, Canada
CONCLUSIONS: This study illustrates the prevalence of hrHPV in BC over time in women undergoing cervical cancer screening, where an indication of a decline in HPV16/18 is seen in vaccine eligible women.PMID:34344555 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.07.009
